Rod spent several years in Canberra, firstly as media adviser and chief of staff to Federal Independent MP Peter Andren, followed by a term as press secretary to former Government Senate Leader Robert Hill. Rod joined Telstra in 2000 beginning as a media and policy advisor to the company's legal and regulatory management team.

Fast forward a few years of doing PR (well trying anyway) for Telstra and lying through his teeth day-in, day-out took its toll on poor little Rod. In his mind, the whole world had formed a grand conspiracy to give Telstra a bad name.

Earning the crown of the world's worst PR stooge, Bruem decided to label a journalist a liar who rigged polls in a series of scathing emails.

While covering online poll number one zillion is far from newsworthy, Bruem's breaking every rule of PR with his ludicrous attempt to bully his way out of a barely embarassing spot was.

And that is why Rod Bruem is a favoured tag used by anonymous posters on blogs everywhere today.
